MARK SFIRRI–
InGrained 2023 Curator

Mark Sfirri will discuss his thought process for curating InGrained: Furniture, Sculpture and Woodturing by Pennsylvania Artists. He will highlight some of the included artists and give more in-depth stories behind selected pieces that are on display. Sfirri curated a similar exhibition in 2008 titled Across the Grain for Wayne Art Center. While there are some familiar names in this year’s exhibition, nearly ¾ of the artists were not in Across the Grain. Having new and emerging artists will bring a fresh and interesting look to InGrained and demonstrate the breadth of work being created in the medium of wood in Pennsylvania.

InGrained 2023 Artist

Miriam Carpenter will take us on an adventure– sharing her ideation, conception and process through her latest works. Carpenter will explore the possibilities within materials as she seeks to create new forms and solve challenging design problems. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, she will encourage viewers to be more attuned to the beauty that surrounds us. Appearing deceptively simple at first glance, each of Carpenter’s pieces involve complex calculations and an intimate understanding of her chosen material.
